The “Coming Back to Ease” journey unfolded over four days as a gentle and progressive immersion into self-awareness, emotional understanding, and embodied presence. Throughout the workshop, a theme emerged: transformation does not come through force or analysis alone, but through learning to sit with oneself, quietly, honestly, and with deep receptivity. The structure of the sessions created a gradual shift from intellectual understanding to direct inner experience.
The emphasis on conscious breathing served as an anchor. Even a single intentional breath, as many participants discovered, could interrupt automatic patterns and create a sense of space within. This practice introduced the possibility of stepping back from habitual reactions.
As the sessions progressed, we collectively explored the nature of emotions, as ‘energies in motion, natural physiological responses that become problematic only when resisted or suppressed. This insight became a turning-point: events do not inherently carry emotional charge; it is our conditioning and internal patterns that shape the experience. When the amygdala is triggered, it can override rational thought, pushing us into impulsive reactions. This explained why many of us behave in ways we later regret, as our systems are trying to keep us safe. Quoting Sri Aurobindo, Amita emphasised the necessity of bringing the subconscious into consciousness so that it can be transformed.
Through reflective exercises, we were encouraged to look at our personal challenges differently. Rather than viewing them as obstacles, we asked what each challenge might be trying to teach or reveal. As The Mother describes, every step forward is often followed by a pause or “arrest”, and these moments call for quietness, steadiness of will, and renewed openness. The practices became progressively more experiential. Body-scanning meditations invited us to observe sensations neutrally, without assigning them labels such as ‘good’ or’“bad’, but simply as pure energy. If thoughts appeared, we were encouraged to return to the body sensations, gently and repeatedly. At several points, we were guided to imagine offering these sensations to the Divine or to the inner Flame, noticing how the body responded in moments of surrender. This offering became a recurring gesture of trust, a soft opening rather than an attempt to control or fix.
The journey closed with The Mother’s reminder that the aim of our evolution is to realise the perfection of our being, to transform the ordinary human consciousness into something more luminous, more receptive, and more aligned with our true essence.
Feedback
“It was a good reminder of the importance of awareness.”
“I was able to experience the strong overload of psychological accumulation during the breathing practice. This led to an awareness of all that and how it conditions my present. There was this shift in my awareness in seeing how the past overwhelms and conditions the present and and doesn't allow the present to be what it is.”
“Yes, it made me see the various ways in which the Mother can touch you deeply and bring you closer to Her Grace.”
“I wouldn’t say I learnt something new, but I did remind myself about the importance of being aware, let go and surrender.”
